What can I say if a real estate agent calls me?

It’s not uncommon for real estate agents to cold-call private sellers — but you are under no obligation to engage with them, and you have the right to ask them not to contact you again.

If you receive an unwanted call:

Stay polite but firm. Let them know you’re selling privately and are not interested in agent services.
Request they don’t call again. Ask them to remove your details from their database.
Make a note of their name and agency. This is important in case you need to take further action. Under Australian privacy laws, agents must comply with your request. If they continue to contact you after being asked not to, it may constitute a breach of privacy. In serious cases, you can report them to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

Question 2

Can I create a lease agreement but not use PropertyNow to manage my rental?

Accepted Answer

Whilst it is technically possible to create and sign your tenancy agreement through PropertyNow without setting up ongoing direct debits, tenancy agreements will list 'direct debit' as the agreed method of payment which may not be suitable if you are intending to make other arrangements for rent payment. There is no option to change this within the agreement presently.

What happens if I click pause?

If you click the 'pause' button in your account we'll show you a popup explaining the options you have for pausing your listing. You'll be able to read about each option and see prices before you decide to continue. If you decide not to continue you can simply close the popup.

The options for pausing your 'for sale' listing include:

Option 1: Pause Listing

Choose this option if:

You plan on taking your listing off the market temporarily (for under 2 months); and
You want to resume your current listing when you unpause

When unpaused, your listing will show its original list date, number of hits and lower search results position by default

Please note, a maximum time limit of 6 weeks applies. If you have not reactivated your property within 6 weeks it will be automatically reactivated for you. If you do not want your listing automatically reactivated after 6 weeks, please contact staff to prevent this.

Option 2: Pause and Refresh Listing

Choose this option if:

You are planning on taking your listing off the market for a minimum of 2 months; and
You want to refresh your property with a brand new listing on realestate.com.au

When unpaused, your listing will have a new list date, zero hits, 'new' banner and higher search results position.

Please note: You will not be able to unpause your listing sooner than two months and a maximum time limit of 6 months applies.

Question 4

How do I add a video to my listing?

You will need to upload your video to a video sharing service like YouTube and then simply copy and paste the link into the field on the Photos, Videos and Floorplans step when editing your listing.

Question 5

When will rent in advance be debited?

Accepted Answer

Rent in advance will be deducted immediately after you sign your lease agreement and finish setting up your bank account within PropertyNow.

Question 6

The map location / pin on my listing is wrong

Accepted Answer

Map locations can be incorrect when an address is set to hidden or when Google Maps has trouble identifying the street address.

If your listing address is set to hidden

Please be aware that if an address is hidden the map pin will be dropped in the middle of the suburb, to avoid revealing your street address.

To check whether your address is hidden by clicking Edit on your listing within your account and noting the "Hide my street address and just display the suburb" option. If this is checked and you no longer wish to hide the address simply uncheck the option and click Save. The update will reflect on all sites within an hour.

If you still need to update the map pin

If your listing address is displayed (or needs to remain hidden) and the map pin is not placed correctly, you will need to supply us with the latitude and longitude of where the pin should be dropped (your property location).

How to find the correct latitude and longitude

On a Computer (Desktop or Laptop)

Go to Google Maps in your web browser.
Search for your property address in the search bar at the top and press Enter.
Zoom in to ensure you’ve located the correct spot—house, land, etc.
Right-click on the exact point on the map you want the coordinates for.
In the pop-up menu, click “What's here?”
At the bottom of the screen, you’ll see a box with the latitude and longitude (e.g., -33.8675, 151.2070).
