What does frontage and depth mean when listing land?
To avoid confusion when entering dimensions into your listing, always determine "Left" and "Right" while standing at the street frontage, looking toward the property.
1. Frontage (Street Frontage)
This is the width of the property boundary that directly faces the street or the primary access point.
2. Depth
The depth refers to the distance from the front boundary (the street) to the very back of the property.
3. Left Boundary
When standing on the street and facing toward the property, this is the physical measurement of the boundary on your left-hand side.
4. Right Boundary
When standing on the street and facing toward the property, this is the physical measurement of the boundary on your right-hand side (directly opposite the left side).
5. Rear Boundary
This is the back boundary of the property, located furthest from the street frontage and typically running parallel to it.
Where can I find these measurements?
If you aren't sure of your exact land dimensions, you can usually find them in the following documents:
- The Title Deed: Your legal ownership documents.
- Deposited Plan (DP) or Survey Plan: A technical drawing of your land parcel provided during the purchase of the property.
- Council Records: Your local council or "Plan of Subdivision" documentation.
