What is the maximum bond amount?

The maximum amount of bond varies depending on your tenancy location, type, and rent amount. Please see the table below for further information.

Maximum bond (typical rules)

NSW

4 weeks’ rent maximum.

VIC

1 month’s rent if weekly rent ≤ $900; no limit if weekly rent > $900 (or if VCAT orders a higher amount).

QLD

4 weeks’ rent if weekly rent ≤ $700; no statutory limit if weekly rent > $700.

SA

4 weeks if weekly rent ≤ $800; 6 weeks if > $800.

WA

4 weeks if weekly rent ≤ $1,200; no statutory limit if > $1,200. Separate capped pet bond possible (see below).

TAS

4 weeks’ rent maximum.

NT

4 weeks’ rent maximum (held on trust by landlord; no bond board).

ACT

4 weeks’ rent maximum.
