How do I change lease terms before the lease is finalised?

Spotted a mistake, or agreed on different terms after sending the lease? Easy fixed — here's what to do, whether you're the landlord or the tenant.

For landlords: editing before the tenant accepts

If your tenant hasn't yet accepted the tenancy terms:

1. Log in and click 'Cancel' next to the tenancy agreement in your list.
2. Once cancelled, click 'View' to return to editing.
3. Adjust the terms as needed, then resend when you're ready.

That's it — the tenant receives the updated version to review and accept.

For tenants: you'd like terms changed before accepting

If you've been offered a tenancy but want a change to the terms, talk to your landlord first rather than clicking anything. If you both agree, they can cancel the draft, adjust the terms and resend it to you.

One important thing: please don't click 'Decline' unless you genuinely don't want to proceed at all. Declining permanently withdraws and locks the draft tenancy — it can't be reopened.

If the tenant has already accepted

Once your tenant accepts, the agreement is generated and sent out for signatures, and the Cancel button becomes Withdraw. Withdrawing sets the agreement to Pending Withdrawal and then Withdrawn. A withdrawn agreement can't be edited or resent, so you remove it and create a fresh one.

Renewals work the same way. Cancel before your tenant accepts to edit and resend; withdraw after acceptance and start a fresh renewal from the Renew button. See What happens if my tenant doesn't accept or sign the renewal?.

If the tenancy has been declined

Once a tenant clicks 'Decline', that draft is locked and can't be edited by anyone. If you both still want to go ahead, the landlord simply creates a fresh tenancy agreement in their account — it only takes a few minutes, especially since most details carry over from the tenant's application.
