# Should I list my rural property as residential or commercial?

**Almost always residential.** Acreage, hobby farms, lifestyle properties and rural retreats list on realestate.com.au and Domain in the **rural** category, alongside residential listings.

What decides it is the **zoning**, not how you use the property. A rural-zoned property that runs as a farmstay or holiday rental still lists as rural. Commercial listings are for commercially zoned premises — shops, offices, industrial — and go on the commercial portals.
